Randy de Puniet had an operation on Friday to remove a screw from his left knee, which was inserted after a crash at Sachsenring. The Frenchman, who suffered a broken leg last July as a result of the fall, will now take some time out to recover following the successful surgery in preparation for the next round of the 2011 MotoGP season at Estoril.

“I’m fine, although now the local anaesthesia has lost its effect I do feel a bit of pain,” said De Puniet. “Now that this screw has been taken out I hope to improve my performance on track. During these days of recuperation I hope to return to my peak physical condition ahead of the Estoril race.
